Mont Avic Natural Park

Established in 1989, the Mont Avic Natural Park borders the Gran Paradiso Natural Park and has been declared a “Site of Community Importance” and “Special Protection Area” as part of “Natura 2000”, the ecological network for safeguarding of biodiversity in Europe.

The park itself has interesting natural elements that make it a unique area in the world. More than a third of the protected area is covered by extensive forests of hook pine, Scots pine, larch and beech. Mirrors of water, marshes, peat bogs, geological formations, plant features and vast grasslands, populated by ibex, chamois and marmots: all this is the Mont Avic Park!

The numerous wetlands give rise to outcrops of serpentinites, rocks that form a poor and shallow soil, while the situation changes in the valley of the high valley of Dondena, in the municipality of Champorcher, where there are calcescists who host a very rich flora and varies.

The visitor center was built by recovering “Villa Biamonti”, a tourist residence from the early 1900s, recovered in contemporary terms also thanks to the use of low environmental impact material and the rational use of renewable sources.

The exhibition part describes the geological, morphological and biological aspects of the high altitude environments of the Park, through the use of photographic images, finds, dynamic models and a model on which thematic maps are projected.
