The commercial tradition of the Aosta Valley stems from the connotation itself of “carrefour d’europe” assumed since the Middle Ages.

However, the quantitative values of this sector do not correspond to so much tradition. In fact, without prejudice to the commercial sector induced by tourism, there is only a trading system just adapted to regional needs.

Current employment in the commercial sector is estimated at around 6,000 units, of which about 30% linked to the tourism sector.
